The gut-loving fibre in this spirulina almond and apple custard smoothie comes from the delicious pouch of South Australian Gourmet Food Company Apple Fruit Custard with Added Fibre.

More than 70% of Australian adults and more than 50% of Australian children are not meeting their recommended daily fibre requirements for health. Fibre is vital to keep your gut working which if not functioning at its best can lead to a range of diseases and poor health outcomes. Fibre promotes a healthy weight by helping you to feel fuller for longer, it also promotes healthy blood pressure and stable blood sugar levels.

The protein in the milk also helps to keep you feeling fuller for longer. Protein is needed to make and repair all the cells in your body. Milk is a good source of fat-soluble vitamins A and D as well as vitamin B12, choline, iodine, and selenium. Calcium is essential for strong bones and teeth and milk is a great source of this mineral.

Almonds give your body healthy monounsaturated fat. This promotes healthy cholesterol levels which help to look after the health of your heart. Almonds are a good source of calcium as well as vitamin E. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant and keeps your skin looking its best.

Spirulina gives your body vitamin B1, B2 and B3 which are needed to make energy from the food you eat. Also, copper and iron help to make red blood cells. Iron is needed to transport oxygen around your body. Spirulina also contains phycocyanin which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This smoothie will lift your energy levels and sustain them.
